Our directors
John Simpson
John Simpson is based in our Newton Stewart office. John qualified as a Chartered Accountant after training in an accountancy firm in Banbridge, near Belfast. Advising small and medium sized businesses has always been one of John’s key skills. Whilst working for BDO Stoy Hayward in Belfast, John successfully helped to prepare business plans for clients seeking grant funding from Northern Ireland’s economic development agencies. He also worked on funding proposals for clients seeking bank facilities.
John’s attentiveness is popular with his clients who appreciate the friendly advice and experience he offers to Charities, the Land and Agriculture sector, and tourism and holiday home businesses.
Outside of Montpelier, John is married and keeps himself busy spending time with his two young children and in his garden. He is actively involved with rugby and enjoys following the successes of Ulster and Ireland.
Lesley Carnochan
Lesley Carnochan joined the Montpelier Carlisle office in July 2010 as Office Manager then moved to the Newton Stewart office in 2013 as an Associate, quickly being promoted to Director in January 2014.
Having passed her BAcc(Hons) with merit at Stirling University, she qualified as a Chartered Accountant whilst working in Dumfries before coming to Montpelier. She recently passed the new ICAS Tax Professional Exams, giving her an in depth knowledge across the taxation sector. Lesley works between the Stranraer and Newton Stewart offices.
Lesley grew up on the family farm near Castle Douglas and attended the town’s high school. This background, along with her studies, gives her the experience to specialise in the farming and agricultural sector, business start-ups and owner managed businesses. Getting to know her clients and their business is Lesley’s speciality, and this shows with her client base expanding all the time. Lesley recently got married to Ewan and is settling into married life whilst continuing to help on the family farm, following rugby both locally and nationally, and getting to know other cultures through foreign travel.

After completing her AAT professional diploma in accountancy, she was awarded full membership status in November 2019. Sophie is based in our Leswalt office as Client Manager and has recently started her Chartered Accountancy training with ICAS.
Sophie enjoys the variety of work involved in her role and getting to know clients and their businesses. Her areas of interest include construction, retail and hospitality.
Outside of work, when she’s not studying, Sophie enjoys spending time with her friends and family and volunteers as treasurer of a local animal charity.
